So, i am thinking of backpacking Africa alone, and i am a female. Am wondering if anyone has done this, know how safe it is - and if there is a better way to do it than go alone?
Am thinking of taking the route from Egypt all the way down to Nairobi down to Cape Town. I hear that crossing borders are quite hard sometimes. So, any thoughts anyone? Thanks. |

Hi Ojjay,
I am still in the planning stages of my trip to Africa, but I have some advice if you do decide to go it alone. Above all else, no matter what ALWAYS trust your intuition. It is your most powerful tool. I went alone to southeast Asia, and once I was there, I was rarely alone. You'll meet so many other travelers, and likely stay along with them for different parts of your trip. Also, if you're taking an overland tour you'll always be in a group. But it never hurts to wear something that looks like a wedding ring. And never let the word spread around a place that you're by yourself. If this happens, just move on. |

Have you already started your tour? Be very careful about disclosing the fact that you are alone. Bring medicine with you just in case of emergencies. If you happen to be in Marrackech, try visiting the Saadian tombs Saadian tombs, you'll like it!

maybe wear a wedding rind if you dont already, and in some situations say your husband is just coming for you or around the corner.
Dont walk places alone at night might sound like common knowledge but one you get comfortable with a place one tends to get more confident. good luck! beprepared for lots of wedding propsals. i think its all street smarts really. |
