The International HUMANA People to People movement is currently running more than 150 humanitarian projects in Africa.
The projects work within fields such as: basic health care, pre-school and primary school education, child care, vocational training, teacher training, environment and community development, AIDS prevention, etc. TCE (Total Control of the Epidemic) is a Humana programme to fight AIDS in Southern Africa. In it´s conception it is based on the experiences of more than 20 years of development work in and with the communities of the region. HIV/AIDS in Southern Africa is out of control. 26 million people in these area are HIV positive, more than 10 million children have already lost one or both parents to AIDS. A situation that can only be managed in a great act of international solidarity. TCE is receiving a lot of positive international recognition. It was officially presented on the African Summit of Heads of States in 2002. In Botswana (the country with the highest HIV-rate in the world today), it has been adopted by the government. It is also working in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and South Africa. We need volunteers, people with good will and a lot of energy to take part in the fight against AIDS in Africa. The programme takes 11 months: 4 months of intensive training at one of our Traveling Folk High Schools ; 6 months of work in Botswana, Mozambique or Zimbabwe ; 1 month of project evaluation back at the school and information work in USA or Europe.
