I'm wondering how travelling in Mali is like in August. Is travelling in Dogon Country possible? Any other tips about Dogon Country or Mali in general?

Travelling in August should be fine. I was there July/Aug and there was the odd storm, but we had no problems. I HIGHLY recommend visiting the Dogon country - I've travelled quite a lot and it's the most interesting and amazing place I've ever been. Once you get into Mali, it will be very easy to find a guide to take you on a trek of the cliff villages for several days. Be very careful when choosing your guide though. Try and get recommendations from people who have already done it. They are usually very reasonably priced and include food and accomodation on the roofs of mudhuts, under the stars! A word of warning - don't swim in the pools/waterfalls. My friends and I did and we all came home with Bilharzia, a nasty tropical disease!

I'll be in Mali August 2006 and want to know about the following:
1) How much RAIN? Did you need a mosquito net? 2) Did you travel by car/bus/caravan? How many hours from point to point? 3) How many DAYS were you there? |
