Hi there, fellow travellers!

I’m planning on travelling to Mauritania, from mid October to mid November, overland from Dakhla in the south of Morocco.

The thing is that I’m planning to travel by public transportation from Portugal and there are some questions I’d like to pose to anyone that as already travelled there or have any comment on the subject:

1st ) how difficult is to get from Dakhla to the Morroco/Mauritania border (note that I’m not travelling with my own transport!) – I’ve heard that nowadays there are buses doing this itinerary. Is it true?

2nd) What about travelling around in Mauritania – till now I couldn’t see any kind of transport “company” that travels in Mauritania. The only thing I “hear” is about taxi-brousse travelling all around it. How difficult can it get to travel in Mauritania (I can imagine that there are no such things as timetables and predefined routes!!)

3rd and last, and most important question) I’ve heard that, contrary to the fact that is possible to travel overland from Morocco to Mauritania, the opposite is still not possible, I mean, travelling from Mauritania to Morocco through the Nouadhibou / Dakhla route is not possible (I think the –Mauritanian government, for safety reasons, still keeps the border closed). Is it true? (I’m kind of lost, because I have already read the contrary, meaning that some foreigners could do it). Can anyone tell me if it’s possible or not to do it? And if it is, is it possible to do it in any kind of public transportation.

Thank you all very much!

My best regards,
Eduardo (from Portugal)
