Finishing a tour in Capetown South Africa from Vic Falls and was wondering if anyone has ever done the cage dive off Gaansbai to see great white sharks ??? I've done a few dives and loved every single moment spent unde water. when I heard about this was amazed and very interested. My question is - would it be a reasonable day excursion from Capetown and are you likely to see Jaws ??? Would be a rush, but I do beleive that the shark is one of the most misrepresented creatures on the planet and would love to see them in their natural environment. thanks. chris

Hi Chris,

Ivé done couple of those whilst down in Cape Town on holiday and working. I would suggest a really thick dive suite, as thick as you can get.

The water is freezing and visibibility is not perfect. You will see large sharks, almost every time. You might see a couple of great whites close up. It is a great experience. You might also consider stopping off at Kwa Zulu-Natal for some good shark dives without cages. Thewater is warm and clear. The down side is that you probably will not spot the great white. You will however spot ragged toth shark as well a tiger shark. Without the cages they seem as big if not bigger than the great whites.
Good luck and enjot the trip.
