Hi Folks,
Does anyone know the condition of the road from Nouakchott to Banjul via the ferry at Barra. How do I then get from Banjul to Bamako without breaking my treasured van in half (back to Dakar and turn east?) Thanks everyone, Mike. |

Hi Mike
It's tarred the whole way now to Banjul, but driving upcountry through The Gambia the roads are poor (north bank much better than south). From Dakar direct to Bamako is now tarred the whole way. Hope that helps Richard PS The new Reise Know-How map and Michelin 741 (just out) are useful. Details on my blog http://theroughguidetowestafrica.blogspot.com. |

Don't forget the 5yr rule on vehicles entering Senegal ... if your van is older than 5yrs it's going to be difficult.
Dakar to Bamako is tarred MOSTLY, but the road from Kaolack to Tambacounda is horrific & full of potholes, allow 5hrs to do this stretch ... Kira Life is what you make it http://deeper-in2-west-africa.blogspot.com http://west-african-skies.blogspot.com |
