Hi All
It was full hardy of me to travel to Egypt during its hottest period and try and get nearly all the site done in one week. What really did me in was the continuous asking for tips (Baksheesh). My reception in Egytp was a raptuous one, because of my afro caribbean background I was treated like a cousin or so they kept calling me (Nubian you my cousin). Never the less they were still hot on the Baksheesh? Baksheesh? Besides the constant hassle of Baksheessh I had a real good time, I was templed out by the end of the week! My advice to anyone planning a trip there is to do more than just the Pyramids and temple sites. Schedule in time to go into the desert and stay at an oasis. I DO RECOMMEND A FELLUCCA TRIP even if it is for 1 night, that was my most memorable part. For me halfway through the trip I went native, I put on a headscarf and wore their traditional cloths and went of the beaten track. In Cairo I spent my last days with the locals only, who showed me another side to the city the tourist don't see. I never felt unsafe in their company. Learn some words and phrases in their language it goes a long long way! And don't forget your Rough Guide, a lot of other people travel with the other book and were constantly reading my Rough Guide as it was much more factual than theirs. In fact I learned so much about Egypts past from my Rough Guide some tourist thought I was a guide for the museum or tmeple we were at. All questions welcome! Have Fun and let me know how you get on/got on in Egypt. P.s Magic Hotel has closed down and Dahab has lost the plot!!! M |
