Went to Uganda in March and loved it. The country is very safe(Except in the North) and the people seemed so friendly and helpful. Not lots of handicrafts around but really good, cheap drums everywhere. We went to Jinja and had contacted an orphanage nearby that we planned to drop off a bunch of kids clothes, shoes, crayons etc. It was a really awesome experience. We are avid travellers but hadn't really thought much about volunteering time, money or items during our trips. If you have any thought of volunteering or donating stuff or money, take a look at the website of the organization we visited. It is www.restorationofhope.org and the guy that we spoke to is Mugabi Ronald. His email address is aroh_uganda@hotmail.com
I saw first hand the work that they do and wish I had the luxury of time to stay and help out at one of the schools or training centres that they have set up. If you are going to Uganda, you'll love it, enjoy.
