Visiting Kenya in May. We are staying (6 of us) in a timeshare resort Royal reserve safari nr. mombassa for three weeks and want some bench mark prices for Safaris during this time.
As it is the low rainy season should we be able to get lower rates when we get out there or is it advisable to book before you go? Thanks Phil |

Phil:
I safari'd in Kenya in Jan 2001 and January 2002. While you are in Mombasa I would try to book some time at Satao Camp. It is a very nice tented camp in Tsavo East, about two hours drive from Mombasa, run by Southern Cross Safaris who have an office in Mombasa. I have never been there in May, but in January it is lovely and green. The camp staff are all very nice, the food good and the wildlife in the dry season at least is very good. This past January they had had rain so many of the herd animals had gone on holiday outside the park, but there were still plenty of elephants, lion, giraffes. Very few buffalo or zebra. The animals apparently are smart enough to realize that the water holes outside the park will dry up first, so they use these first, and then when it gets hot and these waterholes dry up, they move back into the park where there are boreholes or dams with permanent water. I was most satified with Southern Cross and Satao and will go there again next year. Jan |
