Dear dear fellow travellers,

We want to recommend a very special and exceptional place to you. We are a dutch couple, who travelled for 7 months (from march till september 2002) through West Africa in a 25 year old Land Rover. Our whole journey was very special and recommendable, but we would specifically like to tell you about the XOFA farm in Ghana, an absolute highlight of our trip! It’s a while ago that we have been there, but we heard from friends that went there after us, that the place becomes better all the time!

It’s a great undiscovered place in Ghana, the most beautiful spot ever! It concerns the eco-farm at the shores of the Volta Lake.. the ride there is allready magnificent, but the farm itself…. heaven!
Imagine the Volta lake, the most romantic spot on earth with the very best sunsets. Then add a beautiful farm full of fruit trees at the border of and overlooking the lake, and a team of very enthousiastic, nature loving people (mainly rasta’s) who work on this farm. Then imagine a garden full of exotic flowers, little paths leading from huts to other huts, and try to picture yourself sleeping in one of these cute, cosy, clean, simple huts with good beds (there’s camping facilities too)…. It’s not fiction, it’ s possible! You just have to go and see for yourselves!
The farm is run by rasta’s who have idealistic ideas about battling the corrosion the lake causes to the trees. They are replanting trees, merely fruit trees, to generate some income, and to assure the lake will not take even that land. We were struck by the great composition of flowers and bushes all around the compound, the neat little pathways, it was just perfect. You could tell it all had been out there with undivided attention and love for nature. And from everywhere you looked the views over the lake were stunning! (We saw the best sunsets there.)
The rasta’s also cooked for us, good food! Bathroom consisted of clean bucketshower and nice toilet (with seat!). They suggested to us we could go on a little boat on the lake to an island, where we could swim. Nice excursion! Great views, good swimming… Everything was just perfect.

The farm is run by a Ghanian/ American couple who are very dedicated to the farm and their ecological ideals. They are very wellcoming and warm people. It might be good to let them know when you plan to go there, so that they can prepare for your stay. This is the e-mailadress: ABSlives@aol.com.

If you want to see some pictures of this part of our journey, you can visit our website: www.bschutz.com and go the Ghana page.

And then, finally, here are the precise instructions of how to get to this heavenly spot:

From Accra: (2 hour drive) Take the road that goes to Hohoe out of Accra. Cross
over the bridge at Atimpoku and follow road to the right. Turn left at Asikuma
Junction , heading toward the village of Boso. You will see our yellow
signboard "XOFA" at the next junction and turn left here. Drive straight, past
Anum, until you reach Boso. Before the town center of Boso, you will see
another yellow signboard on your left, turn left here and drive to the bottom of
the mountain. Turn right at the bottom of the road and drive to the lakeside.
Park your car here and ask for the footpath or hire a canoe to take you across.

(Of course you can also get there by public transport, just ask Amy for the precise details.)

We wish you all some great travelling experiences!

Bart and Linda
