Cananybody give info on the political situation in northern Ghana ? the following info i gathered from different sites ... LP : “The government has declared a state of emergency in the northern region of the country after clashes between rival clans erupted in late March 2002. The king of the Dagombas, King Ya-Na Yakuba Andani II, was killed along with 27 of his supporters by quarreling factions within his kingdom. The king was shot and then beheaded, and police have yet to find his head.” Bradt : 08/2003 John Mason, a long-time Ghana resident based in the north, emailed me the following: “I’m in the north most of the time now - working out of Bolgatanga. My work takes me to all the districts in the three northern regions. There was some serious fighting in the Dagbon Traditional Area focused on Yendi and Tamale. There is a curfew in place there from 9 pm to 5 am until further notice. There have been some very minor issues in a few other places but not to disturb travellers or our work. Tourists should stay out of the Dagbon area and use Tamale as a quick transit point to Mole NP, Bolga or Wa. The Upper East and Upper West regions are fine for now.” All other info on travelling in Ghana is also most wellcome - accommodation and transport facilities and cost ? - tips of good hotels - safari in Mole NP : private guide or is a tour co better – any suggestions? - Flights from Brussels / A’dam or London ? cheapest options? - Sleeper train experience ? Thxx inadvance travel safely , but travel ! Tom |
