Any opinions on where my girlfriend and I should go for a good safari in February?

Tanzania:
The great migration with lots of animals..

Kenya:
Cheaper

The two of us will save more than $1000 if we choose Kenya instead of Tanzania (more expensive park fees + extra flight for going to Zanzibar). Is Tanzania worth it? Will we get a "good enough" safari in Kenya?...

Grateful for any advice :-)

Having travelled and been involved in safaris in both Kenya nad Tanzania for a good decade now I would firmly say Tanzania. Kenya is not such a great place to go any more, while Tanzania is much more friendly. The safaris are much better, the game is better you are not so often surrounded by other tourists and the parks are magnificent. Zanzibar beats Mombasa hands down so is worth that bit extra. Try looking at the southern circuit in Tanzania. Perhaps basing yourself in Iringa and doing Ruaha and hiking in the Uduzungwas using one of the new gates on the iringa side. Riverside campsite Iringa is a good base and they can sort you out with good value safaris to ruaha and or the uduzungwas. the campsite is also a fabulous place to stay with great surroundings and good food. They have a new campsite at the Msosa gate to the uduzungwas which is one of the most beautiful wilderness sites you will ever see and hardly a tourist goes there! Also check out Neema Crafts while in Iringa. Not to be missed and make sure you ask for a tour.

It is so wonderful that you had a marvelous trip to Africa, however, I would also like to share my tour guide of the past two Julys, one with a friend, and then one with my husband and daughter. Hezron of www.acrosstanzaniaexpeditions.com is the most extraordinary person I have ever met. We were bonded at first sight. By the third day, after seeing just way too many marvelous sights (3 cheetahs up close under a tree, a leopard sitting so noble right next to a vehicle's tire, a black mamba (not many get to see them), etc.) while we were driving back to the tented lodge, my friend was quiet and I was simply looking out the window at the beautiful Serengeti and all of a sudden felt tears rolling down my cheeks. My whole life had changed in a matter of a few days. Nothing mattered to me at all while I was there other than what was around me (and I am a highly energetic, hyper person who is always doing something), even the stress of my parents and their unhappiness with the situation life has presented them - for the length of time in Africa nothing else existed. I felt the soul and life of Tanzania and its land and people through Hezron who is deeply connected to both. Tanzania is his life. I would invite you to visit the website before you make any further decisions of traveling to Africa either for the first time, or a return visit. I do believe no one could care more about your time spent in Tanzania.
