If anyone has information that would better prepare us for the small plane travel from Maun, Botswana into the Okavango wildlife camps, I sure would appreciate it. We are flying into Maun from J'burg mid June and don't have a clue why luggage weight is critical (no more than 26lbs) but passenger weight can be anything up to 200lbs. Do you simply hang all camera equipment around your neck? Wear all your clothes? I don't know how to fit three pairs of shoes on at once!
If we survive the experience, I'll report back on the rules we encounter. -Pooh |

Are you sure about the 26 lbs? All the airlines I have talked to say 22 kilos which is about 44 lbs. Might be an idea to check that out. Is it a commercial airline or a private one you will be on? When I came over here, all the airlines I talked to (in North America) were getting sticky about luggage weights regardless of where you are going although some did have a special allowance for golf equipment.golf-travel-packages

ok, but we are talking about a very small airplane here (probably about 5 or 6 passengers). Luggage weight is always limited on these Cessna type of aircrafts (its not a boeing).
You will have a great flight, you can see all kinds of animals flying above the Okavango. Enjoy!! "A succesful traveller can order himself a beer anywhere" http://members.lycos.nl/bartkaren |

We were lucky enough last month to encounter someone who had made a very similar trip through Botswana in 1999, and they sent us a video cassette of parts of their experience. The planes are 4 to 6 passenger aircraft with very small luggage spaces and only slightly bigger human spaces. But the views were spectacular!
