Looking for some advice as to whether travel to Algeria is safe at this time, specifically the North in Tlemcen. I have read the advisories on the State dept website as well as other websites but looking to get more specific information. My situation is slightly different as my father is Algerian. My mother is American. I would be traveling with an Uncle (also Algerian) and visiting family. I am not going there on business or as a an "American tourist". I would be traveling in a group of Algerians but I would be the only American. Is the fact that my paternal side of the family is Algerian a positive thing or is the fact that I hold an American passport and "look" American going to make me a target?

I was wondering if you ended up going to Algeria?
I am married to an Algerian (I'm American) and he wants to take me and our baby daughter there in March 2008 to meet his family. If you ended up going I wondered what was your experience? Did you feel safe?
