Hey. I have a few questions. I am in kenya now and planning to head to rwanda in about a month. I also was interested in going to burundi for a while and possably over to goma for a bit. First, how were the border crossings between rwanda and these countries? how was the safety issue? also, im a bit worried about pages available in my passport. Did rwanda give you a new visa each time you entered or can you get a multi-entry? Can you get this as the border? I plan on going through Uganda. Any tips you can give me would be great. Thanks.

Sorry for the slow response. Was away for some time. Crossing from Rwanda to Goma is very easy. You just get your visa at the border (30 usd for one week).
And yes, everytime you enter Rwanda, you get stamped. Tey don't issue multiple visas anymore. I guess they make so much money with those visas, they found the trick ! Securitywise, Rwanda is very fine. Burundi is a bit tense at present. Goma is absolutely fine. Just avoid to be around between mid-november and mid-december (results of the election.) |

Wow those are some beautiful pics I am in the EARLY stages of planning a trip to the Congo I wanted to do both the Kinshasa region as well as the Gome region and wanted to know how is the availibility of flights between the two cities if they exist and are these flights open to independent travellers.

Yes, there are flights from Kinshasa to Goma, around three times a week. I'd recommend Hawa Bora, certainly the most reliable in DRC (avoid the others, maintenance on their planes is VERY bad, loads of crash)

Yeah I am actually thinking of cruising up the Congo river to Kisigani (I know it is wrong) from Kinshasa then fly to Goma and then cross the border to over to Rwanda and up into Uganda is all of this plausible? I know the "cruise" up the river will be difficult but what about crossing the borders?

Yes you can cross the border from Goma to Gisenyi in Kigali easily.
Bear in mind that you need a lot of time to cruise on the River Congo. 2 kms/day is what it takes. |
