We've booked a safari in Tanzania this summer, but then read the FCO Travel Advice - 'high threat of terrorism', armed robberies increasing. Should we be worried?

I wouldn't be too concerned about terrorism unless you are near the DR Congo (Zaire) border, really...you're more at risk in the US or UK from "international terrorists" (not as kool sounding as international playboys, but hey)...
The only terrorising you are likely to suffer are from touts and people trying to rip you off - so far on our trip through east africa, Tanzania has been the worst place for attempted rip offs...check every price you get with others, every restaurant bill, check it against the menu (ideally add it up in your head before ordering and remember it), as most people will just write down a price on a peice of paper and give it to you... :) |

quote: You're more likely to run under a bus in Oxford Street than being the victim of terrorism - the travel advice from FCO has not the slightest thing to do with the real world. Just keep a cool head, the same way you would do in any foreign country and even rip-offs won't be too bad. |
