Heya,
Just throwing this out there on the off chance someone has an answer for me.

I've been told that is possible to trek through the Suguta Valley right up to Lake Turkana, starting at Baragoi. Its also been suggested that safety is a bit dodgy.

Anyone done this, heard of this...any adivce.

cheers
S

I'm not being sarcastic when I say it is possible to walk anywhere. I wonder why this particular point to point (okay Lake Turkana, sure - but why from Baragoi? Why not do the Chalabi Desert, for example? Offhand it seems to make more sense).

Have you read Wilfred Thesiger's My Kenya Days? Good ideas for walking up there from a hardcore explorer and walker. Ignore the reactionary opinions if you do read it.

To the best of my knowledge security is still up and down in that area - you take your chances and would be advised to check your route out with the local police.

Anyway, perhaps not something you should do without serious expedition-style planning? Can't see how you could plan to do it reasonably safely without local assistance - camels would also be a big help.

If you are WAY ahead of me on this, please explain the attraction of this route - I would genuinely like to know.
