I would like to go to Morocoo from Spain/Gibraltar by ferry. I have travelled alone (I am 17) however only to Europe and the friends who will be accompanying me are experienced when it comes to travelling. Is it worth it or will it be a big hassle full of complication?

I travelled by fery from Spain to Tangiers, Morocco in 1988. Although it was long ago to remember many details, the ferry crossing itself doesn't bring up any particular memories so I'm sure that part was fine. We toured Tangiers by foot and by bus and it was very interesting. I am glad we had to opportunity to go. It was interesting to see first hand how the people live - the children and chickens running through alleyways, and the "African" trees in the city that cannopied at great heights over everything. The architecture was interesting as well and anything near the sea is always beautiful!

Dear Mica,
There is a large, modern ferry terminal in Algeciras in southern Spain from which there are frequent ferries to Tangier and Ceuta. I've travelled both routes at different times in the past without hassle. (I don't know anything about ferries from Gibraltar, but I suspect your options from there would be somewhat more limited.) If you'd prefer the security of a package, there are day trips to Tangiers from various points on the Costa del Sol. As the above respondent says, such trips are interesting and fun - see if you can resist the sales talk of a Moroccan carpet salesman! Have a good trip! Pete |
