Hi, I'm thinking of using the Baz Bus to get from Jo'burgh to Cape Town later this year and was just wondering if anyone had any first hand experience, how long should I allow, what are the hostels like en route, any do's and don'ts??

This is my first foray into long distance solo travelling so all help would be appreciated :O)

Hi,

I took the Baz Bus from Durban to Cape Town a few years ago, and although it is more expensive than other means of travel (e.g. "black taxis", major bus companies) the ease of it might make up for it, in particular since you're relatively new "in the game". The advantages are that they pick you up and drop you off at the hostel you'll be staying, and you get a head start on getting to know people on the bus already. One disadvantage when I went, was that as it was in high season, I had to book the trip a couple of days in advance, which somehow worked against the idea of flexible travelling. But they might have fixed that problem now, anyway it was during Christmas so...

Good luck and enjoy the trip!
Regards, Rannveig
