Hello
I'll soon be on the Tanzanian safari circuit and I was wondering what camera lens is recommended for wildlife snaps. |

Hi
I find that a minimum of 300mm is fine ;-) Have a nice safari ! |

I went with a 35 mm capability of around 240mm and found it adequate.

the biggest most expensive lens you can afford. sigma make a 170-500. its not too expensive but isnt very fast f6.7 or 8. something like that. you may have to comprise in your film choice however. you could take a 300 and a 2 times converter which can be a good investment.300 may just about be ok but as a professional i find it doesnt get me close enough. i take a very expensive prime 500 with a 1.4 times converter giving me up to about 730ish. also if you use lenses this big and want to use slow film( fuji provia 100 is my choice) then take something to rest the camera on. a little bean bag is a good idea. you dont want camera shake on your once in a lifetime shots.
good shooting. |
