well i'd go back any day!!!
I'd split the time spent there between Stone town and one of the beaches on the north of the island. |

the beaches are lovely, white sand and really clear water, really good place to dive or snorkel there is a padi centre to the north of the island, if i remember correctly
Stone Town is very scenic, loads of little side alleys running off from the main streets, it's not a big enough place to get really lost! The main street that runs along the river front has an evening market every night and the food there is great, you can buy alsorts there as well and it's not to expensive, i got loads of paintings and carvings when i wes out there. If you do take to boat across make sure it's a calm day otherwise you'll be in for a great time!! |

I agree with what's been said already. I spent time in Stonetown and the northern beaches (Nungwi Beach). The sea and sand are fantastic. Stonetown is fun too. I stayed at Karibu Inn in town which was cheap and friendly. Lots to see and do and great food at good prices.
I agree about the ferry too! Have a great time. |

Hello
Definitely go to Zanzibar. It's one of the most lovely places I've been. Again I agree with splitting your time between the beach and Stonetown. Eating at the food market in Stone Town is a must do. Every night they set up stall and you can eat seafood fit for a king, cooked right before your eyes until you are stuffed for about the equivalent of 2 pounds fifty. You eat on their little tables and get great chat from the locals. Loads of cheap, clean places to stay and Zanzibar is such an amazing mix of African and Arab cultures. You must go on a spice tour and visit the old slave market. At the beach you can go to paradise and snorkel with dolphins which is totally out of this world. You can hear them communicating underwater and then all of a sudden they're underneath you - can't describe that one. All in all GO. You'll have a blast and meet fantastic people who will all want to talk to you about British football, but never mind. ENJOY!!!! |

p.s.
Forgot to say you absolutely have to go for Sundowners at this old hotel in stone town. They were renovating it when I was there, but it was still open. A guy was operating a bar in candle light (majorly against health and safety) with one working fridge. Basically it has a huge balcony and you can watch the sun set over the water. Quite unmissable. Don't have my journal with me and can't remember the name, but I think it's the Africa Hotel or something. Whenever we were going there all the locals said " Ah you're off to ....." Just ask and it shouldn't be a problem. |
