Hi, me and my boyfirend will be spending 2 weeks in the Montreal region in December and would like some advice on cheap accomodation - youth hostels, guest houses or cheap hotels.

When I stayed in Montreal some years ago I found an outfit called "Bed & Breakfast in Montreal" (or something similar) in the local phone book. One phone call got me accommodation in someone's home on a bed-and-breakfast basis. The accommodation was nice - don't remember the cost, but it must have been reasonable (otherwise I would remember it!).

I assume there are hostels, etc, in Montreal. If nobody else replies with more specific information I suggest you do a Google search and see what you can find.

I am guessing this site just isn't getting a high proportion of US/Canada visitors yet - nothing more sinister than that. The same is true of our forums for some strange reason - to an extent at least.
