Can anyone give advice on daily bus/train travel into NYC for 3 day visit, staying in Elizabeth at the Marriott Residence Inn?

We will need a subway pass once into NYC - does that cover any of the busses/trains serving Elizabeth?

Thanks for help

Hi there :o)

OK - to get into/out of NYC, you'll need either the NJ Transit train or bus. Check out the New Jersey Transit Webpage for more info on both rail and bus schedules and maps. The Elizabeth stations are on both the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast lines, which gives you the option of going into Penn Station in NYC or Hoboken Station in NJ and transferring to the PATH train (subway-like system between NYC and NJ) to lower Manhattan.

Once in NYC, you'll need the MTA Subway and/or Bus. Fares are $2 per local ride, and there are various length unlimited passes (all fares are purchased on MetroCards). Don't forget about the bonus, though, for every five rides you buy, you get one free! Check out the MTA webpage for more info, and choose from the NYC Transit options on the left. If you take the NJ Transit system into Penn Station in NYC, you'll have access to the 1,2,3,9,A,C, and E lines of the subway.

Unfortunately, the MTA NYC Transit and NJ Transit are two separate organizations, each with their own fare structure

Enjoy your visit to NYC!
