Hi,
I'm off to Canada in July for two months i know it very very big and was wondering if anyone could recommend routes eg car/train/bus?. Would it be unrealistic to get from Toronto to Vancouver visiting things along the way? I'm very intrested in seeing new sites, things that you wouldn't find in England. I'm not to big on places that have been taken over by touristy things and made tacky i want to try and capture the real Canada. If anyone as any ideas that would be great i'm quite intrested in sport so where to watch ice hockey would also be helpful. Basically any advise that you think would help would be much appricated. thanks for your time Denise P.S I will be goin on my own so safe places would be good!! |

First of all, hockey is a winter sport, so July is really not the best time to try catch a game. If you want traditional sport, then try lacrosse, Canada's other national sport.
If you do not want to waste your time seeing same old same old then why visit Toronto? It's a big city like many other big cities - Niagara Falls is a big tourist draw, but it is 2.5 hours away by car. Maybe spend a day or two just to adjust to time zones, but really, if you want Canadian wilderness you won't find it in Toronto. (I'll probably draw plenty of ire from Torontonians for that remark, but c'est la vie.) Montreal and Quebec City offer a bit of french culture in North America - Montreal in July is awash with free outdoor festivals, plenty of sidewalk culture, and Quebec City, though small, is a fortified city that is one of a kind in North America. You do not need to speak french in Quebec to get by, but it does make the experience more enjoyable. BC is beautiful, Alberta (especially around Jasper, Banff etc) and the Rockies are spectacular, and the Badlands have plenty of dinosaur history. I'm not sure what Manitoba or Saskatchewan can offer, never been there (flat plains). In order to save time, you might want to consider flying from Toronto to Alberta, then a train from there to BC - flights here are not overly expensive. If you want to really see the wilds of Canada, consider going up north, to the Yukon. good luck |
