Does anyone know of a decent tour that we can catch from San Francisco that takes in enough winerys to make the journey worth the while...bear in mind we're Brits and a few small sips just won't cut it!

Hello fellow travelers

I lived in Northern California for 30 years and as a native, I wasn't familiar with "tours". However, having said that, I would drive up to Napa at least once a month and enjoy!

My suggestion is to rent a car, drive across the beautiful Golden Gate Bridge and over to Napa and the wine country. It is a very simple drive and once you get there, you can spend days! I am exaggerating, but not by much. A new winery opens every month.

It is a lot of fun and I do recommend staying over at least one night. I can't recommend a hotel, things have changed quite a lot since I have lived there. But, I will enthusiastically suggest that you head to V.Satui for lunch and a wonderful dry Riesling. They have picnic tables, a fantastic food market as well as an exceptional wine tasting and sales room. No, I do not own a piece of the winery. We found it a long time ago when it was operating out of a tiny building and have watched it grow through the year. We love the wine. Always go there when I go home and buy some to keep me going till the next time.

While you are in San Francisco, take a drive down the Pacific Coast Highway, highway 101, all the way to Monterey. It is one of the most beautiful ocean drives in the world. And you can have a lot of fun at the Monterey Wharf.

Hope this is helpful and you enjoy.

By the way, love your country too. I have been to London twice, and Ireland once.

Good Luck on your travels
