I'm planning on visiting Atlanta early next year. What's there? Any "must see" sights or attractions? Any tips on accommodation and places to eat and drink (or places to avoid) also welcome.

Thanks,
Pete

Peter, what do you like in a restaurant? Casual? Elegant, gourmet? Ethnic? That would help alot bc there are LOTS of wonderful places to eat in Atlanta.

Hi Azoria

Thanks for your reply. My taste in restaurants tends towards the casual and inexpensive. What I'm really asking is: where would the locals go for a good meal out in Atlanta? Any suggestions welcomed.

Pete

The first thought that came to mind about a good restaurant that is casual and cheap would be "OK Cafe". It is a 24 hour cafe right off of 75 on West Paces Ferry. It is packed on Sunday mornings (great breakfast) and around 2 am when you get all the partiers coming in. The lunch and dinner is excellent..all homecooked meals..great desserts!
Another great place to eat is Ippolito's, an italian place that is very casual. Great fresh pasta and desserts TO DIE FOR! They have six locations in Atlanta. If you go, get their house salad dressing. Also..Felini's Pizza in Buckhead. Great pizza, nice patio to sit on (if you go when the weather is good). There are other restaurants, but these are the three that come to mind. Hope this helps! :-

I visited Atlanta last spring and would recommend
seeing the Carter Presidential Library, the
Martin Luther King historical area and especially
the Fox Theatre (foxtheatre.org) It's a spectacular theatre designed in the 1920's in a
mosque/casbah theme. They give tours several
days a week at 10 a.m. You can also tour CNN but
I thought the tour was overpriced and too short.
What I did see was interesting so you should
judge your own personal level of interest as to
whether it's worth going to or not.
