Hello,
Has anyone got any tips that could help save money with regard to getting across America in three weeks. There's three of us hoping to get a flight into San Francisco in July, and returning from Texas or Florida in August (having gone via someone's wedding in Milwaukee). Basically, we'll already have forked out £600 for the flights, and we're looking of a cheap way to get across, preferable by driving. So has anyone got any tips regarding dirt-cheap one-way rental cars, and failing that, does anyone have any idea about the legality of a foreigner (British) buying a wreck of a car in San Francisco, then driving it across the country before selling it??? Thanks for any help or tips anyone's got. We really aren't so keen on resorting to buses or trains, but if anyone has nay idea of the prices of those as well it would probably be a great help. Cheers |

Driveaway sounds like the answer. It's a system whereby you can deliver a car from city A to city B in the USA. It's free apart from a returnable deposit and petrol (gas) after the first tankful. Usually there are distance and time restrictions.
The best known agency for this is called Auto Driveaway. Have a look at their website - www.autodriveaway.com - and phone their local office when you arrive in the States to see if they have any cars which need taking in the direction you wish to go. Good luck! Pete |

the Greyhound bus network is really cheap. the buses are clean, and you get to where you want to go without having to do the driving! they should have a website. if it's not greyhound.com or gogreyhound.com, type it into your search engine and you should find it. happy traveling!!
