Has anyone done the drive from Calgary to Vancouver? I know the direct route only takes 5-6 hours (so I'm told) but is there a more scenic route through the rockies and if you were to say allow 2-3 days with a couple of nights in motels/B&Bs along the way, would this work? Be grateful for any views / suggestions! Thanks

From Calgary head for Lake Louise/Banff then continue North on the 93 passing over the Columbia Ice Field (go for a hike up to Parker Ridge and go for a trip onto the Glacier) then head for Jasper. The journey from Jasper to Vancouver is on the 5 South (the Yellowhead south Highway)to Kamloops. Depending on how much time you have left you could continue on the 5 to Vancouver or take one of the more scenic routes, Highway 1 or possible the 5a. Buy a good guide book and take in all the sights on the way and go at a pace that suits you. Time/distance wise you can drive from Jasper to Kamloops in a day, Golden to Vancouver in a day, Banff to Jasper in a day. Banff, Jasper and Kamloops have the most accommodation to choose from but can be very busy.

Have a great time, it's beautiful :)
