Can anyone tell me what is the best border crossing point from the US into Mexico?
Thanks [This message was edited by minky moo on October 20, 2003 at 11:45 AM.] |

Yes, crossing the US-Mexico border is well worth it to experience the dramatic difference between the two cultures.
The best-known crossing point, south of San Diego, is from San Ysidro (California) to Tijuana (Mexico). I've not done that particular crossing, but I have done Del Rio (Texas) to Acuna, and El Paso to Juarez. I would suggest you cross the border at whichever crossing point fits in best with the rest of your planned itinerary. Pete |

Crossed both at Tijuana (south of San Diego) and Nogales on the Arizona border. The advantage of Nogales is that you can park your car right near the border crossing and walk over. YES, what a (sad) culture shock! I just joined this site today; hope I wasn't too late for your post. There are bargains to be found but be careful and know quality (not saying I do!). Dicker everything down, that is expected in all "open-air" stands and shops; don't be afraid to "walk away" you'll know you got the lowest price after many times of playing this game. If there are doors, like in a "real" store, the price is fixed as marked. AND, my opinion (and many others), do NOT bring your car over!!! I know some people do but I have never thought it's worth the risk. You do need special Mexican insurance if you do go over with a car (can be purchased on the U.S. side of the border). In a rental car, I don't even know if you would be allowed to take it over.
