Bucks County is home to a neat little airport along the Delaware river that is home to quite a few older aircraft. Van Sant Air Park is a grass strip that feels and looks like a throw-back to the forties. It is an amazing little airport that was saved by Bucks County. It is now part of the Bucks County Park system.
Three days ago, I made a reservation at the Oak Grove Country Inn in Pippersville, Pa for one night. Yesterday morning, I phoned the hotel to cancel my reservation. I was berated by the owner of the hotel for daring to cancel on the day of my reservation. He bellowed at me that I would show up or be charged, ranted about taking a room out of inventory and never allowed me once to get a word in edgewise. I told him that I felt that I should have been told of their forty-eight hour cancellation policy. He growled that that was standard for hotles in this region. What concerned me was the attitude and tone that this person took with me. I was polite and he went after me within seconds of my asking to cancel my reservation. I've been traveling the world for thirty-years (I am a magazine and aerial photographer) and have come across some pretty obnoxious hotel management people - but this guy takes the cake. He was, by far, the most overbearing and the rudest person I ever had the displeasure or dealing with and the conversation became quite heated. There are many fine b&b's in Bucks County, a couple of really cool local inn's and of course, the standard chain hotels. If you make a reservation in Bucks County, do yourself a favor and make sure they are very clear with you about their cancellation policy. My experience with the Oak Grove Inn was probally unusual. (I hope that is not the norm on how they treat people) But I can not recomend them. |
