I'm going on a 21 day trek america tour (NY-->L.A) in june and wondered if anyone could give me an idea of what to expect.

I did exactly the same tour as you're doing with Trekamerica many years ago. It was my first visit to the States, and it was hectic - but great fun!

You'll be travelling with a party of 10-15 others in a large minibus, with a leader/driver. You'll be camping at campsites - most of them with excellent facilities. There is a kitty (ie pooled money) system and members of the group take it in turns to buy food (from local supermarkets) and cook it.

As you'd expect with such a huge country, you'll spend a lot of time on the road - our vehicle clocked up over 5000 miles in the three weeks. On our trip we spent 2-3 nights in cities such as New Orleans and Las Vegas - we also stayed in budget hotels in those places as the intense heat would have made camping very uncomfortable.

If you can, I'd recommend you arrange to spend at least a few days in both New York and LA before the start and after the end of your trip.

You'll see a lot of places and sights on your trip, and have a lot of fun with your group - and you'll never forget it!
