Dear Fellow Thorn Tree Participants:
From June 24, 2004 to August 01, 2004, my wife and I (we are in our mid-forties and my wife has some difficulty walking) will be staying in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. During this time, we really wish to experience this beautiful city and province. Essentially, I want you to assist me in planning an itinerary for our stay in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We are staying in Halifax for basically five weeks and I would like to plan something special for almost everyday. Could you please suggest the following to me:

a) good but budget places to stay in Nova Scotia, especially Halifax. Remember my wife has difficulty walking (no wheelchair but she walks with a cane) so this is a factor in any place we stay in. By the way, a really nice place with really nice people that is above budget but worth it can be suggested too.

a) good but budget (please read "cheap") restaurants in Nova Scotia and especially Halifax to us. Please note however that if you know of excellent/outstanding restaurants that are medium priced/expensive but that you really like, please feel free to recommend them to us.

b) places to visit in Nova Scotia and especially Halifax. However, no heavy metal clubs please.

c) things to do and see in general. Just tell what you or someone you know enjoyed during their stay in Nova Scotia and especially Halifax. Perhaps we might enjoy seeing and doing it also.

Next, Forums like this can be extremely useful to anyone. Can anyone recommend to me similar Forums on the Internet that discuss travel affairs like Travel Talk?

I don't know if this is any use, but I've been reading the Rough Guide (!) to Canada, and they have a list of contacts for travellers with disabilities, though most are sources of advice. Of the UK-based ones, try Can Be Done Ltd (0208 9072400) at www.canbedone.co.uk - they apparently organise tours to Canada; they might have something covering Halifax and area. If that proves to be a bit of a dead end, then you could always contact some of the others from Australia and US - page 23!
