Hi,
I'm going to be going travelling around the Americas (probably starting in September) and Ive been trying to work out the best way I can stay around there for as long as possible, ideally I'd like to fly into the USA or Canada (flying from the UK). I know if I fly into the USA, i'll only be eligible for the 90 day visa waiver, but I'd really like to stay a bit longer...does flying into Canada allow me a longer lasting visa? Thanks in advance. Rick Pycroft. |

Rick,
I think you'll find that the 90-day period allowed under the US's Visa Waiver Program starts on the day you arrive in the US (from the UK) and ends when you leave the US to fly back to the UK, regardless of any side trips you might make to Canada or Mexico in the meantime. In other words, if you cross the border into Canada, you won't re-enter the US with a fresh 90 days! For more information, check the US Embassy's website at www.usembassy.org.uk Have a great trip! Hey Pete,
(or anyone that can answer my original question! ;) yeah, I realise that with the 90 day visa waiver program in the USA, you have 90 days to do what you want in and around the USA, then you have to fly home, without meaning to come over as rude, what I was meaning was if I were to fly into Canada, are they more relaxed with the amount of time that a British citizen can stay in their country for leisure, without applying for a specialist visa...this way, I'd be more free to move around where and when I wanted, without having to get back for a specific flight home... heh, sorry if this explanation seems a little long winded, Ive tried to narrow it down to the smallest form I can...anyones help on this is much appreciated. Cheers! Rick Pycroft. |
