We're planning a three week trip to western Canada starting from Vancouver. Would love to hear from anyone about their "must sees". What are the things we don't want to miss?
Many thanks in advance! |

as these types often are. You tell us nothing about what interests you. Looking for nature or clubs?
I like nature so here's a couple of highlights for me. Driving to the top of Vancouver Island. Once one gets above Campbell (?) River things change from suburb to forest. Banff and Jasper are things that one should see but they're very, very crowded. I enjoyed spending time in smaller provincial parks such as Wells Gray where there were far fewer people per square foot. Basically, get off the main roads and on to the secondary (or tertiary). Think about dropping south of the border to Yellowstone. bob www.pbase.com\bobtrips Photos from Cambodia, Myanmar, Nepal and Thailand |

Theres a few good books published by Lone Pine Publishing, including one (or more) about travelling on byways.
Parks Canada (www.parkscanada.gc.ca) has a new Web-site, but this doesn't compare with the American Nat Parks Service site. Better by far for detail is the Canadian National Parks Atlas (http://collection.nlc-bnc.ca/100/200/301/ic/can_digital_collections/parks_atlas/, a private job, but thorough. Don't click on the coloured maps, but use the map to identify which region you want to know more about, then click on the region's title at the foot of the page. Try Skycars International (www.skycars.com) for a car - much cheaper than the normally cheap Suncars - but you'll need to book here. www.optionsinsuranceco.uk offers good-value travel insurance. We're going in June, which is reputedly a bit too early to get to the high points of the Columbia Range, but we plan to travel to Bellingham, then east to the North Cascades Nat Park, head north over the border to Revelstoke NP (west of Banff) then drop down into Vancouver from the north-east. The RG makes it sound fascinating! |
