i am going to be living in Canada for about 10-12 months. i would like a mobile phone so people can contact me in emergencies from the uk or for friends and employers in canada can contact me. any suggestions?

I've been living here a year or two and here's what I've picked up.

the deals are essentially the same so don't be afraid to get a bill phone. texts don't always work so be sure to ask on whatever model you use. telus for example I've noticed frequently don't work. I've anorth american nokia myself.

I use rogers at&t - they're the only ones that use sim cards. the rest use another system I've just this moment forgotten about.

if you use a sim card phone. you an fire in your uk one (vodafone works for sure) and use that if it's an emergency or you need to get numbers off it.
