You could easily spend 12 days in the Hawaiian islands, but they are definately not budget friendly. Also, note that the islands are about a 6 hour plane trip from the west coast. If you wanted to combine a trip to the islands with one to the mainland USA, be sure to account to a lengthy and expensive plane ticket.

If you've only got 12 days, I suggest you stay within one region of the US. For example, in the east, you could tour New York, Boston and New England. Or visit New Orleans and the South. Alternatively, in the west, you could tour the Las Vegas/LA/San Fransisco triangle. All these places are well worth spending time in.

Have a great trip!

It depends what you are after (what kind of experience). The (north) eastern U.S. is very different from the West Coast, you should pull out a map to familiarize yourself & see your options. Hawaii is beautiful but hard to get around from one island to the other (the only way really to do it is to fly from one to the other), a one way flight (you might be able to get a better deal) when I was there was at least $100 (one-way) so yes definitely more expensive. But if you do go there Maui is more touristy, I would avoid Honolulu altogether if possible (there is hardly any beach) but Kuai'i is the best, most protected area of all the islands, that is one place to visit if you go.

Hawaii is not that far from California by air though, you can get it direct & it's about 4 hours in the plane so one idea that might work is to start in Hawaii for a few days then fly to California, there are tons of places to visit there, Santa Barbara, San Diego, if you go farther south the Baja Coast is unbelievable, really. It is an archipelago, a grouping of tons of tiny little islands, a great place to explore! Then from there you could visit to Seattle or Washington State, you didn't really say your interests but there is Yosemite National Park and the Grand Canyon is in Arizona not that far either. There are tons of options... if you have any more ?'s feel free to email me, susannamynn@yahoo.com

good luck!

Well, it all depends on what region your in. But if you are close to the south and have never experienced it you should think about it. New Orleans is a place of its own, if you are looking for fun but WILD time you should go. Not just that but the french setting beutiful and the food is amazing. Good Luck!!!!
