Hi, can anyone give us some tips please?? We are planning a 3 week fly drive in late Sep. We want to see San Fran, Anaheim, Las Vegas, LA with a 4 day stop over in Hawaii with a couple of days in San Deigo just to chill out at the end. Are there are places I should include or exclude. we enjoy driving but don't want spend all day in the car. Appreciate comments.

If you are going to drive down the CA coast (or up from LA for that matter), take Highway 1. It is a beautiful, scenic highway that follows the coast most of the way. Stop in Cambria & San Luis Obispo, and Santa Barbara. There are sections of the highway where you will see dolphins jumping through the waves, very cool!

Did the same trip this past summer. Go for it but alow lots of time(& Gasoline) taking the PCH(Pacific Coast Highway) very slow going 20mph the long, windy roads can be frustrating in the heat. Drove from San fran to LA on this road took us 8 hours and we saw nothing but sea coast. We Loved SFO locals very friendly always wanting to help you if your seen holding map lol. cheaper to take the subway B.A.R.T(Bay area rapid transit) from our hotel in Oakland and 2 day transit pass. Rail Station has park and ride facilities dont even consider parking in the city unless you have hotel. LA sux but worth a visit if you have time We took in UNIVERSAL STUDIOS excellent day out get pass on the website 2 days for price of one. Also if you like the water take in the SIX FLAGS HURRICAIN HARBOUR ($16 p/person by far the best day of the whole trip. BTW If you have AA or RAC membership call them for AAA swipe and save card we saved on gate fees at universal and 6 flags about $5 per person and some hotels honour the card also. it goes without saying get the rough guide book for California and the Tourist info office in Downtown SFO is huge resourse for all of California. have fun Viv
