It depends on which part of the country. The South is generally friendly, while New Yorkers are rude. There's no simple answer because the U.S. is such a large and varried country.

all the americans i encountered were v.friendly, especially, when you tell them that you are a foreigner travelling from coast to coast. mind you, the guys in Las Vegas seemed kinda creepy...
