Traveling from Boston to Orlando, I will definitely look at Boston and New York. Has anybody got any other ideas of nice places to visit on the west coast of the USA. Any travel tips would also be welcome.

First of all, if you're travelling from Boston to Orlando, you'll be going down the EAST coast of the USA (not the west!).

Washington DC is clearly worth a visit, as is the Smoky Mountains National Park and Savannah, Georgia. I'm sure others can add to this list.

If you're travelling by car, and you've got time, try to keep off interstate highways. They get VERY boring after a while!

like the previous poster said you are def going down the East coast unless your going in a very roundabout way. Anyway, good one about the Smokey Mountains Park, i hit that one my self about 2 years ago. IT was cool, wish i had spent more time there. I would also suggest a trip to Williamsburg, VA. I haven't been there since i was a kid, but it might give you a taste of colonial american life, something that most people probably rarely see. Also if your into it, Busch Gardens is a good theme park as well. However if your into seeing buildings, and museums D.C. is a good choice, though if you ahve the time and money you coudl do both as Williamsburg isn't really out of the way.

Sorry no sense of direction, luckily i will not be the one driving. Thanks for all suggestions. Just want to know if the roads off interstate would be good enough for long distance driving. I know here in Ireland when you come off anything other than brand new primary roads it takes you five times as long to get any where. However I would much prefare not to go on highway all the way as you do not get a real feel for the country and smaller towns and cities. Please keep suggestions coming.
Thanks

I'd say for driving long distances you definetly want to be on the Interstates. That is the quickest way to get to wher eyour going. Obviously, you'll have to get off of them for some of your destinations but between say New York and D.C. you would stay on I-95 the whole time...
