Hi I'm from the UK and I'm planning to do a tour of the USA next July. At the moment there will about 3-4 of us.
I'm wondering where the best region to visit would be. We will have 21 days but would like to see as much as possible but without feeling too rushed. Originally we thought maybe to fly into Boston and then make our way down the east coast ending in Miami. However I think this would be a bit too much and we would be driving constantly for the 3 weeks. I'm now thinking that we should either visit the New York/Washington DC area or the California area. The sort of experience we are looking for is sunny weather (we dont get much in th UK!), moderate drinking of beer and light partying! Any advice would be welcome! Rick Planning my USA Tour 2006 |

Why not consider a California/New Mexico Trip. There are plenty of cities in Europe (and while its exciting...) there is unbelievable nature in the Western states. You could certainly see alot (and alot of sun) with 3 weeks on the west coast.

I agree with Michelle, you'll have a great time on a Californian trip. Three of us flew to LA, rented a car, drove south to San Diego (popping into Mexico) then Palm Springs, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, Death Valley, Mammoth, Yosemite, Napa Valley, San francisco, then back down to LA along the Pacific Highway stopping off at Santa Cruz, Carmel, San Simeon, Santa Barbara and Santa Monica. We had a fantastic time, took us four weeks.

Hi,
I have booked a 28 day trip to eastern Canada/USA in October of this year. I fly in to Ottawa and am spending a week there and Toronto. Then heading to new york (by train)- doing a TrekAmerica tour for a week (Washington, Bear country, Niagra, New England, Boston)before coming back and spending a week in New York. Will travel up to Montreal (via Boston)then back to Ottawa. Obviously - I haven't done it yet so I can't reccommend it but after researching various options this seemed the most manageable on a budget and within the timeframe. |

Evertionian, it depends on what you're interested in. If you're interested in English seeming places then New York, Washington, Boston and Pilladelphia are most like urban England. If you're going to be there in July, the fireworks are spectacular in Washington on July 4th.
Places like New Hampshire and Vermont are most like rural England. California is different and the closer you go to Mexico, the more hispanic the state seems. Los Angeles is very sprawly but San Francisco is well worth seeing (but it's very hilly). Dallas Fort Worth, Austin and San Antonio are the most interesting parts of Texas, but The Alamo was a bit of a let down. |

No worries. We've just spent a few months there checking out several places like Chicago, New York, Arizona, California and Michigan. Have a read of some of our travelogues and recommendations.
