Hi all,
Will be travelling to San Francisco later in the year. Anyone know any good places to stay? Ive searched the web but cant really find much :( Is it worth booking a bed in advance or will it be possible to just turn up? Cheers D. |

Hi Trent, I was in San Francisco last year for two weeks. I stayed at the Adelaide hostel in the theater district (near union square) and all the bus lines were very accesable (as were main attractions)
http://www.adelaidehostel.com/ It was a nice hostel, $18 a night to share a room w/ 3 other people (there were allot of people from England and Australia), every morning you got a free (cheap and wrapped) pastry, and all the coffee and tea you'll ever want. They had a kitchen, a seperate room w/ tables and chairs (and a tv w/ cable) where you could eat and hang out. My sister and I brought just a backpack but found the place more than safe enough to leave our stuff in our rooms for the day (you and the other 3 people staying in your room all get a key). It is kitty-corner to the Tenderloin (bad part of town) but that can be easily avoided. And as I found, you can be in a bad part of town one block and then a rich part the next moment. Another good site to see a whole bunch of hostels in SF is here: http://www.hostels.com/us.ca.sf.html As for booking ahead or just showing up. It really depends on what time of the year you go, and what time you'll be arriving in SF and the hostel in general. Some hostels prefer you book ahead (at the Adelaide I saw quite a few people just show up) w/ a credit card for a minumum two nights stay. the above website will take you to individual sites and they will answer that question. Sorry for the long message but I hope it helps a bit. Have fun in San Francisco, it's a great city. |
