We're planning a trip to Canada for 2-3 weeks next July/Aug. We thought we'd roughly do a week on the east and then the rest of the hol on the west. Most people we know have opted for east or west and unable to offer advice. What do you think?

Also any must dos?

I'm in a similar situation. From what I can gather, the West Coast scenery is more spectacular and the best national parks are over that side, and Vancouver looks like the most interesting of the Canadian cities, but it does seem to be very touristy. I've read that you need to book in everywhere you go in advance. I also get the impression that there arent many towns up the coast, so loads of tourists cram into the ones that there are.
I fancy the East Coast more and a trip up to Newfoundland. I think it's culturally more interesting over there, with stretches of coast that have their own dialect and isolated fishing villages where the harsh elements condition life. I think I'll also get a better idea of the Francophoine-Anglophone tensions within Canada over on the Eastern side.

I'm still not decided though.

Cheers

Daniel

Thanks for your comment!
If you're interested in the language and tensions then the east would def be for you. Enjoy it!
We're hoping to book in about 4 weeks time so I'd better get down to more reading!
