i am travelling to the u.s soon on a 3 month visitor visa, can I extend my trip by going to canada for a month and then changing my flight date whilst in the u.s so that i can fly back to the u.k from canada?

I would be surprised if you are allowed to change the routing on your ticket... Usually changing date is no problem, but changing the itinerary/departure city is almost impossible...
