I will be staying 3 nights at Page during a 3 weeks fly drive with a mate to the states. For one of the days there, we plan to drive to Monument Valley (UT) and possibly to four corners (only point in the US common to four state corners). I was wondering if this is too much to do in one day, and also what parts of Monument Valley are musts and what parts can be given a miss? Where abouts are the 3 main 'rocks' (the ones that appear in every photograph of Monument Valley).

Any help greatly appreciated.

Monument Valley is on a Navaho Indian reservation, you drive up a long road, turn into the visitors center then you can take your car along a bumpy unpaved road for a 17 mile view of the Mesa's. It's all concentrated around the group of mesa's that you can see from the visitors center and is what you see in the background in all the westerns. You can pay for a guided tour but I doubt you'll see anything that different. It's easily doable in a day, we did that in the morning and could have done Canyon de chelley in the afternoon if we wanted.
Email me if you want more info :)

Oh and give the actual 4 corners monument a wide berth unless you want to buy some Indian jewellry!

Go to see Bryce Canyon if you can, it's stunning.

Thanks for the info. I will be staying a night in Bryce Canyon, glad to hear that it's a nice place.

Where did you drive from when you went to Monument Valley, was it Page? I think a day trip from Page to MV and Four Corners and back to Page would be a bit much in a day anyway, we'll just do MV.

we stayed at a place called Cortez then drove to Monument Valley in the morning but it doesn't take long to see it.

Bryce Canyon Best Western Ruby Inn is a great place to stay. North of Bryce is some fantastic scenery along the Grand staircase Escalante, and if you're in Bryce you might as well go see Zion at the same time.

Enjoy you trip!
