I was there in 2002 and a few years before. There has been a lot of reconstruction, so it has gotten more impressive. It is easily worth a half day trip. I have not seen what is on the nearby island of Topoxte, and it seems that there is a lot there as well. To see both, a tour would probably be the way to go. Otherwise, a cab can take you and wait long enough for you to see it.
