If you want to go to do the trip through the canyon you dont need to buy the tour in a travel agency. When we recently were there they asked 450 pesos for the trip. We then asked around and found out that you can buy in San Cristobal at the bus terminal a ticket that takes you to Tuxtla. Tell them you want to go to the Canyon and the will put a stamp on it which says Nestle. This is the place were you have to get of the bus. Price for the ticket 28 pesos. From there you can take a bus which cost you 3.5 pesos which takes you to the center of the village. You can also walk it which is around 15 till 20 minutes. From the center of the pueblo it is around 8 minutes walking to the place were you can start the tour. Everybody is walking there so you see it immideately. The cost for the tour was 100 pesos but I was there in highseason.

To get back you have to take a bus or walk to the place were you got of with the first bus. There you have to wait for the bus to San Cristobal. As far as I know this one goes every half an hour. Cost 25 pesos. The bus is a green bus. Ask the people who are waiting there because there are several busses passing there.

Total price 160 pesos instead of 450 pesos.
