We spent one month last year in Belize, covering it all, finding it a marvelous country, and couldn't wait to go back this year. The people were awesome and the natural beauty was tremendous. The snorkeling is out of this world, as is the birding.

This is to let you know that we made an on-line car reservation with a company called Nexgenautorental.com in January, for a March trip. Everything would be all set we were told, but apon arrival (4:45pm) the company was closed, door locked and not even a note as to how to get in touch with the owner - no car!
The people next door helped by calling the missing agent who claimed ignorance and confusion-no help at all. Going down the line of auto rental dealers to try and find us a car we eventually got one from Avis.
This put our departure almost 2 hours behind ,so we arrived late to our destination - Mama Noots. I can't recommend this place enough!!
We then drove to Dangriga to get Buck's boat out to Tobacco Caye. As always he and his guys are very helpful.
BUT when we tried to get into our room at the Paradise Lodge we were told there was no room. I produced the e-mail confirmation and thy still denied room. I demanded to talk to the owner and magically a room next to the helps quarters was found! We did get the cabanas we reserved for the rest of our stay however. The year before we found the staff very engaging to the point we helped peel potatoes with the cooks, etc., and she always had coffee ready for me at 5:30 because she knew I was an early riser. She even had a birthday cake made for my wife in Dangriga and had it delivered in time for her birthday! There are many more stories like this which made the stay so warm.
The staff this year was very distant, unhappy always stayed in and never said hello (unless you passed right next to them) the whole time we were there (4 nights). The food was absolutely the worst and I even called the owner afterward to let them know how bad it was. We finally begged Lana to feed us dinner 2 nights and thankfully she was able to.
We spent 2 nights at Tobacco Caye lodge and the place still has last years charm and good food, friendliness and charm thankfully.
Sorry for the long post but to those who go to Tobacco I though it important to speak out
