First trip to Tikal and don't know how long to plan.
Option one: one night in Flores, visit to Tikal late afternoon and again early morning before returning to city. Option two: two nights in Flores, visit to Tikal late afternoon and all of next day. Any recommendations? We plan to hike the big temples, wander around, but we're not die-hard amateur archeologists. Nothing worse than feeling bored and trapped. |

Either approach would be good. Remember that unless you take the chicken buses, round trip will cost you each $13 R/T. The entry fee is now 150Q or $19.50 each day, unless you enter after 3 PM, in which case, the entry is good for the next day as well.
Another would be to stay in Flores, go early by shuttle and come back that day when you feel like it. Based on your self-description. odds are that you will see all you want by mid-afternoon. Then spend another night in Flores, preferably somewhere not too expensive like Hotel Santana or La Casona de la Isla. Both have a real pool to look forward to, unlike the Hotel Peten's wading version of one. If you do spend the night at Tikal, bring books to read until the lights and fans go out around 10 PM. |
