I did it last year and had a wonderfull time in Guatemala! I paid a lot to a dutch organisation to work as a volunteer.
Now I am living in Antigua and I found out again that you have to pay a lot of money for voluntersjobs.
In this case I recommend Zamora Academia, you only pay 15 USD. adm. charges and that´s it!
They have a lot of different projects, like orphans houses for children and medical projects!

I scanned down for a lot of the schools in Antigua and it appears that the majority do offer volunteer opportunities.
