I will be travelling to mexico in feb, for the first time on my own as a women traveller, would anyone have any advice on the best place to go, looking for culture and other travellers, would also be interested if anyone can suggest good guest houses or hotels that are reasonably priced. Thank you

Despite all the failures of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, Mexico is still a large country. Any logical answer to your question must take into account where you are flying into, how much time you have, some idea of your budget level and your interests, besides culture and meeting people.

Oh yes, what do you consider "reasonably priced"?

I can recommend a lovely and cheap place to stay in the historic heart of Guadalajara...It's family owned and operated and rooms with bath are about $25/night(US)...Posada San Rafael phone 3 614-9146...address is 619 Lopez Cotilla. enjoy! Peter

Do you speak Spanish? I ask because once you get out of the major urban and tourist centers the chance of running into some one who is bilingual will dramatically decrease. If you can speak Spanish relatively well there are many places available to you throughout the country but as a previous poster has mentioned it really depends on where you are arriving/departing and how long you're planning on staying.
